Elaeagnus Ebbingei, also known as Ebbinge’s Silverberry, is a versatile shrub that works well in almost every landscape. With foliage that ranges from olive green to dark green in color featuring a silvery scale appearance on its leaves. This Elaeagnus variety is evergreen in most zones, although some colder locations may see it go dormant in winter. In the fall this shrub produces fragrant white flowers that will later bloom into edible berries with a single, large seed in the center. The Elaeagnus x ebbingei is known to be a fast grower, and eventually reaches 8-10' tall and wide in USDA zones 7 – 11.

  • RESILIENT HEDGE: A dense evergreen shrub with upright, spineless branches densely packed with silver-scaled green foliage. Very small, intensely fragrant flowers open in fall and are followed by small red berries. An excellent hedge, foundation shrub or small accent tree. Evergreen in mild winter climates and remains hardy in USDA zones 7 – 11. Expect fully grown examples to reach 8-10' tall and wide.
  • EDIBLE FRUIT: The Elaeagnus Ebbingei produces a unique edible berry that is a great addition to a shrub that already has an unusual appearance. In the places you would usually see Azaleas or Boxwoods the Elaeagnus is a great choice instead or maybe even as companion plants. Attract bees, butterflies and/or birds when you choose this landscape shrub.
  • MAINTENANCE: Elaeagnus do not require pruning, however, respond well to it for shaping, hedges, or to control the size of the plant. A stray or broken branch can and should be pruned any time of year. Heavier pruning to reduce size should be performed in late winter, before new growth begins to emerge.
  • USDA ZONES: Elaeagnus Silverberry is hardy in USDA zones 7 – 11 and thrive when they receive full sunlight. Too little sunlight will result in less plentiful foliage and less blooms/berries. Water 2-3 times per week during the first growing season to help it get off on the right foot in your landscape.
  • POTTED PLANT: Ships as a 2.5 quart potted plant with soil from the Alabama Gulf Coast. Not guaranteed to be in bloom on arrival. This plant is unavailable to ship to South Carolina, Hawaii, and Alaska.
